Please keep up the good work, not everyone is taught a foundation for (any) social interactions. [PS: When I was hired to present/keynote a conference in Tokyo, I loved my week there, but since the facilitators tried to appeal to Amer/Euro tastes, they took us 5 speakers to white-washed touristy restaurants! After three meals I caught on, and ate out with the student/locals -- almost as good as the varied Pacific Rim foods I get here in L.A. ~ so eat with the locals!] Lovely to read you echo the solid common-sense and good manners that I try to teach my own clients (in another field, not yours). Good, sound advice. I enjoy reading your articles because they focus on what works and not the latest cool thing (although, sometimes those two are in alignment). And I know I've said it before, but I love how friendly, fun and nice the DC Tech community has been. I like the online and offline conversations. Speaking of local, hopefully I'll run into you soon at a local event and we can catch up. If not, will you be in Austin for SXSWi? I will! Hey Jared! Good, sound advice. And, ideally, if you're connecting online because of shared interests, then it shouldn't be a challenge to connect in other ways. We think in terms of "networking" and "work" but isn't that what life and being social creatures is all about - connecting with other people who have shared interests? Have a great time on all your trips. If I don't see you before SxSW, I'll see you there! Nice post Jared. I especially like the way you've woven the relationship-building from online to "real world." And your cautionary reminder that the online community is a small, very interconnected universe. Twitter, in particular, has been a wonderful tool for facilitating conversations and figuring out who has what Mark Meyer calls "street cred." But as you, and he, and others have pointed out -- it's as we start to take those conversations off-line that our relationships deepen. Best, Daria Hi Jared,

Twitter, in particular, has been a wonderful tool for facilitating conversations and figuring out who has what Mark Meyer calls “street cred.” But as you, and he, and others have pointed out — it’s as we start to take those conversations off-line that our relationships deepen.

I've been reading a lot of sites for a long time, but I never took the time to get involved. Your post today has motivated me to reach out so thanks for the kick, it feels good to take part in the conversation. I live in San Diego so I didn’t get to see your presentation. That trip is tied to the Hong Kong project that doesn't have the actual dates scheduled (I have tix to all the other places), but I'll let you know :-). By the way, thanks for recommendation for Barcelona before, you know all! Roni & Courtney, it was great meeting you both this morning! It's refreshing to see how much is happening online in Baltimore. Roni, I really enjoyed your site (you don't need my help with photos)...and Courtney, hope to get to work together!
